The editorial of the Islamic Republic Newspaper took aim at the behaviour of candidates, criticising the degree of propaganda already circulating and concluding that this election will be “a very dirty war”. The editorial particularly criticised the use of “ridiculous photos, cartoons and revelations that mix truth with falsehood”, highlighting the effect of social media by stating that “this election is different from previous elections in that the use of the internet has reached a higher level and provided extraordinary opportunities for the presidential candidates and their supporters”.
