Kainat Shakil

Project title: Gendered citizenship: The case of Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey

Kainat is a PhD student at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, Deakin University. Her PhD research focuses on themes of nationalism, gender and citizenship with a focus on Muslim majority countries. Her research interests also focus on populism. She is affiliated with the European Center of Populism Studies as a Non-resident Research Associate. Previously Kainat worked at a Pakistan based think-tank — where her work has focused on reviewing public policies from a people centric perspective for better public representation, ownership, and participation. Shakil has been an Erasmus research scholar at Middlesex University London and recipient of US State Department’s scholarship Global UGRAD.
